Portrait Drawing: Developing your Mind’s Eye (Jeffrey Ellse)

To be able to capture the likeness and character of a person you’re drawing needs to be not only accurate, but a felt response to the subject. Drawing is the foundation of all representational art and especially portraiture. It is not the media itself that is of such importance, but the visual language its helps to develop. This course will focus on foundational concepts such as: proportions, cast shadows shapes, artistic facial anatomy, negative positive shape, relative measuring, blind contour, and more. We will start will linear drawings and slowly move into using value, where you will develop each step of the process. We will work from photographs and live models. This class is for all levels. Graphite or charcoal are preferred.
