How do you capture a likeness? What are the essentials? This course will answer these questions and many more. You will learn foundational concepts and tools to create accurate and life-like portraits. Learn everything you need to know from proper easel placement to how to hold your brush. We will start with monochromatic studies and work with visual exercises which will teach you how to perceive and communicate, the key elements that are essential to grasping the  likeness of an individual. We will continue by progressing through a series of complimentary color exercises that are specifically designed to heighten your awareness of the relational component of color perception and color mixing. A full spectrum primary palette will then be introduced. Direct and indirect painting methods will also be discussed throughout the class.
